Let Children Play

I thought the "Let Children Play" video brought up a very good point. Not only do children need to play to increase their social and intellectual thinking, but with child obesity becoming a growing problem in the country, I think it's important to keep recess as a way for children to have physical activity everyday. Some students do not participate in sports outside of school so this might be the only time in the day that they can participate in a physical activity and play with friends. Even if the school does not have a playground available, students can use the school's gymnasium or have indoor recess in their classroom and play board games or arts and crafts.

  1. I thought your public service announcement was excellent. I agree with you and believe that children should play. Having students constantly testing and doing work is draining for the child. I feel if the children are working constantly their attention span doesn't last as long. If a child has time to play, they are able to think outside the box and have fun.

  2. I think that children need more time to play and to have more hands on activities in the classroom if they are not getting enough time during recess. A majority of classrooms still use the traditional seat work ways and children need to be able to move around to keep their interest levels up. I'm not sure if more play time will occur with No Child Left Behind and the demand for high test scores.
